Studio Thimbles Level 1 Course (STL1) is a sewing for beginners course like a White Belt in Martial Arts in order to earn your Black Belt, you need to start with basics! STL1 is a sewing course for absolute beginners to help you start your sewing journey in fastest and easiest way.
Avoid sewing frustration and disappointment from YouTube videos! Learn in a small group of like-minded people with peer-to-peer support. Knowledgeable, friendly, patient teachers will guide you every step of the way.
We all once were beginners, so, we know how you feel. Our teachers Denise, Daniela, or Olga will take you on the journey from setting up your sewing machine to 1st handmade ready-to-wear garment, which you would be so proud of!

what will you learn?
As we learn during our sewing for beginners course we will complete the following projects:
- Cushion cover (envelope type)
- Tote bag with box corners
- Apron with patch pocket and bias binding finishing
- Skirt with pockets
As we gain knowledge and confidence, we finish this STL1 sewing for beginners course with 1st garment for ourselves. It will be a skirt with in-seam pockets. This will prepare us for the STL2 sewing course where we will continue to help you become a pro with the sewing machine. We start working with garment patterns and will make a top and pants/shorts for ourselves. If you love our Martial Arts reference, the STL2 it will be like grading from White belt straight to Green Belt!
For this sewing for beginners course we will be taking max 5 students per group, so you could learn in a friendly, nurturing space with personal attention to you.

I did the T-Shirt Baby Workshop with absolutely zero sewing experience and came out of it with a cute T-shirt for my little baby, but most importantly, I now have the confidence to use a sewing machine (I have never used one before!). Olga was such a pleasant, patient and enthusiastic teacher and provided absolutely everything you needed. Location was easy to find and we were able to finish the workshop on time (2.5 hours) without feeling rushed. I was able to take a copy of the pattern away with me and I went and bought some more fabric straight after to continue making more!

I booked my niece into the tote bag class for her birthday present. She has never sewed before but Olga was the perfect patient encouraging teacher and my niece had the best time and absolutely loved the bag. When we were leaving my niece asked when can we go again! I must add that even though my niece was the only one booked at that time (we saw the students in the earlier class as they were leaving) Olga did not cancel the class and my niece was so lucky to get a one on one private lesson! We did not expect this and it really was going above and beyond. I can’t recommend Olga’s class highly enough. We will be back!

I couldn’t make the 5 week course so I booked a private lesson with Olga. She helped me conquer my fear of starting anything on my sewing machine. I learnt how to load the bobbin, thread my machine, and cut and sew a tote bag in a couple of hours. The lesson flew by, and Olga made it fun and easy. I’m really excited to see what I can make now!

I did the STL2 course with Olga and had a great time! I learned a lot of techniques that I struggled to teach myself at home, and also really enjoyed the social aspect of the class. Olga provides a warm and inviting environment to learn in, and her knowledge is exceptional! The classes are also offered at times that are outside of the normal scope which is great for people who can only learn outside of normal business hours! Highly recommend!

I am a Russian girl with an Aussie heart. I am so grateful to live in the most beautiful country in the world and have an opportunity to follow my sewing passion!
From a young age I was mesmerised by the ability to turn fabrics into unique garments, which often drew comment from admirers for their beauty and character. Below are some hard to find pictures of me in my “me made” garments when I was still studying at school.
You might find it hard to believe that I am a Process Engineer by my degree, but I am a seamstress in my heart! Sewing been my passion through all my life. I was dreaming about becoming a fashion designer.
